Plaquemines Parish Presents Juneteenth on the Bayou!!!!!
JUNETEENTH is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of Slavery in the United States. Juneteenth’s originated in Galveston Texas in 1866 on June 19th marking the first year anniversary after Emancipation day. Juneteeth became a federal holiday in 2021. Our Festival has humble beginnings first forming in 2020 in the mist of global pandemic, our parish citizens came together and hosted 30 different vendor booths. Each Vendor booth hosts a different item no two are the same. Most booths feature our signature dishes that are unique to Plaquemines parish such as crab and shrimp stuffed bell peppers, a wine tasting of homemade wines, fried red fish, boiled seafood and sides, chargrilled oysters, grilled crab, seafood baked potatoes, banana foster stuffed beignets and country style Bar B Q that highlight or distinct culture. We also have booths featuring crafts, local tattoo artist, and tribal clothing. Our festival will feature a wellness booth, live music and a DJ, A panel of community elders discussing issues that plague our community and possible solutions. We are proud to announce we will crown our first Plaquemines Parish Juneteeth Fairs and Festival Queen & Little Miss. Juneteenth. In the future we would like to see our Festival grow to have rides, a parade and fireworks. Our Festival will take place June 19 2022 10amClick the link below to learn more about the festival.
